About the Topic:

On June 17-18, 1863, during the events leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg, the First Rhode Island Cavalry was sent alone and unsupported deep behind Confederate lines in the Loudoun Valley to find the Confederates. They found them, resulting in the near destruction of the unit.

Come hear the story of this forgotten, but pivotal engagement on the road to Gettysburg, as well as the tale of Alfred Duffié,  the French born commander of these Rhode Islanders who led them to destruction.
